Rose Castle

One Place, One Mission

For over eight centuries, Rose Castle has stood at the crossroads of cultures and conflicts — a place of prayer, power, and protection on the frontier between England and Scotland. Once a fortress built to keep enemies out, it is now a sanctuary that welcomes them in.

This remarkable transformation now shapes our shared mission: to equip a generation of reconcilers — people who can meet across divides, learn to disagree well, and rediscover what it means to be human together.

At the heart of this mission are three intertwined expressions of one vision:

Rose Castle Foundation

A global charity for peace and reconciliation

At the Rose Castle Foundation, we work in some of the world’s most divided societies, equipping faith-formed leaders with the skills, tools, and habits to bridge divides and transform unhealthy conflict. We see our mission as deeply personal: we don’t just teach reconciliation; we practice it ourselves — in our work, in our community, and here at Rose Castle.

While our work spans continents, our offices are on the Rose Castle estate, where we host programmes and gatherings that bring our vision to life.

Rose Castle Company

A steward of place and partner in mission

The Rose Castle Company cares for the castle and estate as a home for reconciliation. We host guests, retreats, and celebrations that carry forward the same spirit of radical hospitality that guides our work. The gardens, kitchens, and guest rooms are more than facilities — they are spaces of encounter, where strangers become companions and peace is practiced around every table.

From weddings to leadership gatherings, every event helps sustain the castle, keeping it open to all who seek rest, reflection, and renewal.

Rose Community

Rooted in place, living reconciliation

The Rose Community is the living, praying, working heart of Rose Castle. It brings together residents, neighbours, volunteers, and visiting guests in daily rhythms of hospitality, prayer, and practical service — caring for both the land and the relationships that sustain the castle as a house of prayer and peace.

Life in the Rose Community models the principles Rose Castle Foundation teaches globally: reconciliation with God, self, one another, and creation. From shared meals and open gardens to collaborative projects in the orchard and farm, the community keeps alive the ancient rhythm of working, eating, and celebrating as one.
